FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Technical clarity on our materials, lead times, and the engineering standards of Loft Customs.

Palma de Mallorca, Spain. We are located in the heart of the Mediterranean’s primary sailing yacht refit hub. We service Mallorca ports directly and utilize digital templating to ship projects worldwide. Contact us for on-site visits worldwide.
Yes. While our pedigree is in Grand Prix racing and sailing superyachts, we apply the same precision to custom covers, enclosures, and textile systems for motor yachts.
We primarily specify Weathermax canvas (including LT and soft-lined SD variants) and Serge Ferrari Stamoid and mesh (Soltis 86 and 96). We recommend materials based on performance - durability, UV resistance, and weight. We are happy to discuss options, but we will always push you toward the fabrics we know will survive the environment.
Typical lead time is 6–8 weeks from the date the deposit is confirmed. Large-scale fit-outs, such as superyacht refit packages or new race boat builds, may require longer timelines. We provide an honest schedule upfront and we deliver on it. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis—your deposit secures your slot in the Loft.
Yes. Patterning visits for boats in Mallorca ports are standard. For boats in Mallorca outside Palma, a €75 travel surcharge applies. For Spain mainland and international projects, we discuss logistics on a case-by-case basis or utilize our remote fit-out process.
Every project is bespoke, so we do not publish fixed price lists. You are paying for design and labour—the materials are the smaller portion of the total investment. The value is in the thirty years of experience that ensure the gear fits like it was born on the boat. We provide free quotations; approximately 90% of those who receive an estimate follow through to the build. For fixed-price gear, visit the Loft Shop.
A 50% deposit is required to secure your build slot. The remaining 50% is due upon completion. For projects under €1,000, full payment may be required upfront. We do not order materials or hold build slots until the deposit is received. No deposit, no slot.
Yes. This is a core capability. During COVID, we built a complete race yacht fit-out for a boat in Finland without an on-site visit—every piece fit perfectly. Remote projects require high-resolution photos, architectural drawings, and a single point of contact on the boat to ensure precision.
Our schedule is our schedule. We do not bump existing clients to accommodate urgent requests, regardless of the boat's size. If your timeline is tight, contact us early. Textiles are often an afterthought in refit planning; reaching out early is the only way to guarantee the slot you need.
BJ Simons has worked across three America’s Cup campaigns (Alinghi) and the Grand Prix circuits (Ran, Bella Mente, Cannonball). Our superyacht portfolio includes projects like Koru (70m SY), Raven (transatlantic record-breaker), and Skorpios. See the honours list for list of our clients.
Decades of Grand Prix experience. Our background in weight optimization, materials science, and high-load design is unique in the marine textile industry. We apply racing-level thinking to everything we build, whether it is an ultralight pit bag for a TP52 or a canvas bimini for a 50-metre superyacht.
